Reviva Labs Review

I was approached a couple of months by the wonderful people at Reviva Labs to review a few of their products. Among them was their new Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) Cream. I told them I would be happy to, seeing as how I'm always looking into new moisturizers, anything to make my skin better. I told them about the products that caught my attention and in a matter of days they were at my door.

The products were: EFA Cream, Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Light Skin Peel, Change Up and Makeup Primer.

Here's a little history on Reviva Labs and it's founder, Stephen Strassler.

"
In 1973 when Reviva Labs was established, the word “Exfoliation” was unknown in America. That was 37 years ago. It’s when Reviva Labs introduced the first non-chemical European Exfoliant to Health Food Stores, known as “Light Skin Peel”. It’s unique formula and blending remains unduplicated today. Because Reviva has been a “quiet” company, most of you are probably not aware that Reviva was also the first in Health Food Stores with:

  1. A milder, non-drying program for acne
  2. Elastin
  3. Topical trace minerals
  4. Glycolic Acid (from dermatologist source)
  5. Hyaluronic Acid
  6. Vitamin P for spider veins and rosacea
  7. A new - ingredient-complex for under eye dark circles and others

Although Health Food Stores are Reviva’s major distribution channel, Reviva’s origins are actually in professional skin care salons. Reviva’s founder, Stephen Strassler, is one of America’s earliest Aestheticians. It was (and is today) the testing of product safety and performance in various skin care salons that has been a unique and key factor in Reviva’s history of product effectiveness. Product effectiveness is not only a matter of the right ingredients but the experience in blending the proper percentages. And the knowledge of the interaction of those ingredients. The wrong percentage of one of the active ingredients could inactivate the performance of the product.

Think about what you’ve learned from your own experiences over the years. Then, please consider what 37 years of skin care experience can mean to you the next time you’re buying skin- care products.
"

As they say, who could be better suited to take care of your skin than an Aesthetician and one that has been doing it for almost 40 years? Nobody, in my humble opinion.

(First off you should know that I tested these product for over a month on myself, friends and models. This my honest opinion.)

Light Skin Peel

"Peeling" is a European term for one of the most unique European items in the entire cosmetic field. THIS IS NOT A HARSH CHEMICAL PEEL. It doesn't "peel skin" as we know it, but gently lifts off more hardened, dried skin cells than can be achieved by scrubs or any other "exfoliating" product. Dead-cell accumulation prevents treatment products from penetrating and keeps skin tone from looking fresh and vibrant. For aging and problem skin, PEEL is absolutely vital; it offers multiple benefits, which one can see and feel with just one application. Used by Europe’s top Skin Treatment Specialists as a supplementary cleansing step in any skin care program. Any skin type, any age, can benefit from a once-a-week "Peel". Our Peel ingredients also stimulate the deeper new cells to move upward at a faster rate – c causing the skin surface to look tighter, clearer and healthier."

This was the first product I tried. I applied a generous amount on my skin and let it dry, it took about 10 minutes. Clean up was a breeze, I followed the instructions of the peel and removed it with a dry towel, rubbing it off. My skin felt automatically different. It was soft, it had a glow and my pores even looked smaller. I was in shock for a couple of minutes. I went to show my mother and when she touched my skin she said "baby face", it was that soft! I absolutely love this product. The only thing I can point out is the peel itself has a strong smell, to me it kind of smelled like Cilantro, or some herb that has a strong potent smell but the good thing is once the peel is off your face, the smell is gone. At only $20 this product is a bargain!

EFA (Essential Fatty Acids) Cream
"Linoleic Acid and Alpha Linolenic Acid - known as Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) - seem to have been overlooked externally (and internally) as an answer to increase skin thickness in thin, fragile skin. When, in time skin loses EFAs, skin can become thin and delicate. To thicken skin, Reviva Labs has developed a unique complex of 10 different natural oils rich in linolenic and alpha linolenic acids. Among them flaxseed oil, borage oil, hemp oil, and sunflower oil. Usually creams for thin skin are rich and heavy. But our reports from professional Aestheticians have accented that such creams haven't answered the problem. Instead, our cream is light and easily absorbed into skin cells. Emollients to soften skin are added plus pomegranate for antioxidant benefits. Combine a.m. and p.m. use of this cream with EFAs via food or supplements, and see a beautiful difference in your skin."

I have to say that I was a little skeptical, that is until I actually tried it on my skin. This little beauty won the "Best of Natural Beauty" award for 2010 and for good reason. After weeks of use my skin felt soft and as weird as it sounds, rejuvenated. My brown spots from sun damage had almost disappeared. I was able to, for the first time in my life, use a tinted moisturizer on my skin as foundation. I had no need for a liquid foundation, there was barely anything I needed to cover or mask away. I love this cream so much it's replaced all my other expensive face creams. This cream retails for $25, which is once again and incredible bargain considering it's amazing results.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Hyaluronic Acid Serum 1oz
"Our highest-potency daily moisture booster! Reviva Labs has now compounded a higher level of premium Hyaluronic Acid into a precious fluid that can help raise skin's moisture level to fill-in furrows, plump up tissues and tone-down lines. Apply under creams in the evening or alone to hydrate skin. If also seeking firmness, alternate with our DMAE Firming Fluid. Benefits: Unlike products that depend on moisture in the air, HA can help hydrate skin even in dry climates or heated rooms that rob skin of moisture. "

This product caught my attention because of it's claim to boost your skin's moisture. I have to admit their claim is completely accurate. I first mist my skin with a toner mixed in with a few other goodies and then applied the serum. It felt like the 2 were meshing together quite well, then my skin went taught, the product had very quickly soaked into my skin. It felt weird at first for it to soak in so fast but as Reviva Labs says, the Hyaluronic Acid's purpose is to retain moisture, it did that and then some. After a couple of minutes the stiffness on my skin went away and I was left with a silky smooth surface ready to soak in my EFA cream. My face fell in love with the combination of the Hyaluronic Acid and the EFA cream, it was love at first sight. This Hyaluronic Acid Serum retails for $22, yet another amazing bargain for this little beauty.

"Apply over moisturizer or instead of moisturizer. Lines fill in, pores are concealed, excess oil is controlled. Skin so touchable, so silky smooth, you will find it hard to believe."

I'm taking you step by step, telling you how my skincare regimen goes and we've almost come to the end with the Makeup Primer. As I mentioned before, I'm always on the look-out for moisturizers but I'm also always looking for makeup primers. If you don't already know, makeup primers are mainly used to literally prep and prime your skin for all the makeup you're about to put on it. It basically acts like a shield for your skin so that all the makeup doesn't go directly into your skin and it also makes it last longer. I usually use Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer, it's the only one that's made my makeup last all day long, that is until I tried Reviva Labs' Makeup Primer. I was a bit skeptical, I didn't think it was possible for a "Health Food Store" brand to make a good makeup primer. Boy, was I wrong. All I have is 100% positive feedback for this primer, it goes on smooth, it's not sticky and most importantly it makes makeup last all day long.
Revivalabs' Makeup Primer retails for $19.50.

Change Up

"
  • Gives you a firmer, younger, more flattering look in minutes.
You'll love the change...a younger, fresher looking face.
  • Use a.m. alone or under make-up lasts all day.
  • For deeper lines, 2-4 thin layers may be necessary.
  • Light, clear gel stays on until you wash it off.
  • Even contains protective antioxidants.
  • All natural formula-natural preservatives.
"

We've reached the product that made me literally gasp in amazement. I was intrigued by the fact that this product claimed to "erase" lines on your face, I had to see it myself. I don't have any visible lines (because I take care of my skin) except for my smile lines, which I'm proud to have because it means I smile a lot. I tested the Change Up serum on my lines and was blown away by the results.

(Left: Before Change Up, right: After Change Up)
Here's the proof. On the left you can kind of see my smile line. I had nothing on my skin at that moment, no makeup or moisturizers. What I did was simply dab a tiny dot of Change Up (the size of the tip of a Q-Tip) and placed it over the line. After it dried my skin felt taught but this time it was a good thing that it was taught, it meant that product worked and had filled in my line. I tried applying a few more layers and as you can see in the pictures, not only did it fill in my line it also lightened up my skin and it look like I had that "soft focus" effect naturally, it also felt silky smooth I have nothing but love for this product, it is amazing. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars in Botox injectoions just get this little bottle for only $28.50 if only to make those expression lines go away if only for a little while. This is not a permanent solution or long-term like Botox, it goes away as soon as you wash your face but it does work while it's on your skin.

Keep in mind that I only tested 5 of the many, many products they offer. And Reviva Labs isn't exclusive to womens' skincare, they have plenty of products for mens' skin care as well. All in all, I loved every single of the products I tested. I still cannot believe such great products are all made with natural ingredients but it's true. I have stopped using my old moisturizers and are now using Reviva Labs Products. If that doesn't let you know how much I love these products, then I don't know what will! Give them a try, I assure you, you will not be disappointed!
